Program Overview
- Duration: 10 to 12 weeks (120 – 140 clock hours)

Medical Assistant Program
Program Description
The Medical Assistant Program at VGP Medical Career Institute is designed to prepare
students for entry-level employment in both administrative and clinical roles in a variety of
healthcare settings. Students will learn to perform clinical duties such as taking vital signs,
drawing blood, administering medications, and assisting with minor procedures, as well as
administrative functions such as scheduling, billing, and maintaining patient records.
This program aligns with the expectations and quality standards of the Georgia Nonpublic
Postsecondary Education Commission (GNPEC) and prepares graduates to sit for national
certification exams such as the CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant) or CMA (Certified
Medical Assistant).
Program Objectives
- Perform clinical skills such as EKGs, phlebotomy, and injections.
- Manage patient records and medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA.
- Assist in diagnostic procedures and physical exams.
- Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and medical terninology.
- Communicate professionally with patients and healthcare team members.
- Understand and apply legal and ethical standards in healthcare.

Duration: 36–40 weeks (900–1,000 clock hours)

• Lecture/Classroom: 400 hours
• Skills Lab: 250 hours
• Clinical Externship: 250–300 hours

- Students must maintain a 75% average and complete all competencies to graduate.
Certification Outcomes

• CCMA – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA)
• CMA – Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA)
• RMA – Registered Medical Assistant (AMT).
